I am getting emails from many of you who do not live near Philadelphia where Dr. Check/Dr. Cohen are located. We need to find other ways to help ourselves get well. While it seems the medications of either Adderall, Dexedrine or Vyvanse seem the best way to deal with our symptoms, the reality is that this is not accessible to all of us. This disorder is common but highly under diagnosed. They understand it here in New Jersey (US) but only North Jersey mostly, some in New York and of course in Philadelphia. This doesn't help us though. I am going to do a series on the forum of things we can do to get ourselves feeling better and back to our lives. The cells in our bodies don't work correctly when we are in a sitting or standing position. We have cellular leakage which can cause an array of symptoms. Some of us have the fluid which is intermittent but depending on the amount we retain is debilitating in itself. I suffer more from the gastroparesis or slowing down of my intestines making me nauseous and unable to eat due to the fullness of my stomach not emptying normally. We can suffer with constipation, Crohn's Disease, menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain, and chronic fatigue. Pain can occur, or itching and hives from unwanted toxins leaking into tissues. This inflammation and pain can occur with or without the edema. It often has a hereditary component such as Endometriosis or the edema component. I myself have had menstrual irregularities and pain (before my hysterectomy for Endometriosis which my sister had as well). I have the intermittent edema, a history of chronic fatigue, Epstein Barr virus as well. Infertility can be another symptom with this disorder. There are multiple manifestations with the disorder as it affects the whole body as multiple organ systems are involved here. It is believed to be a hypofunctioning of our Sympathetic Nervous System so we really can have an array of symptoms. My next topic on the discussion forum will be ways we may be able to help ourselves either with the medication or if we cannot access it. I hope this series on the forum will get us all to better health.
