I don't drink much and only in the evenings because I know mixing Adderall and alcohol is not a good combination. But when I do go to happy hour with friends, I notice that after 1-2 drinks my feet get hot and puffy and turn red. Since alcohol is a depressant I can see how it can be working against us.
Has anyone else experienced this? Do you drink or do you avoid alcohol entirely?
On average I have 1 to 2 drinks a week, which could be wine or a cocktail or maybe a beer. Interestingly enough feels like my tolerance is much higher on the Adderall probably because I’m amped so to speak. If I have a swelling episode I don’t drink at all, no desire to either. Also tend to be very thirsty during an episode, there are some days I can’t drink it enough water. Not sure if that’s common among others?
I personally cannot drink alcohol as I have herniated discs and now with the dehydration factor with alcohol, it causes me to get a headache. If I am well hydrated, I may have a glass of wine with dinner on occasion. I am not sure of the other effects but I never drink when I am not in remission. Remission being, I am taking the medicine every day and will all of a sudden start to swell one day. I then increase the medication by 10mg at first and that usually does the trick for me. Everyone will have slight deviations on their symptoms as well. Alcohol causes dilatation of the blood vessels and causes dehydration. I find I do better if I hydrate well prior to that one drink. Other causes would be liver issues (which can be tested with blood work) and is probably not the cause. I also developed a Raynaud's type of disorder several years ago which causes my hands and feet to turn red and swell in heat especially or even when taking a bath. The sympathetic nervous system regulates much in the body so symptoms may vary. Try hydrating well and see if it occurs again and let us know. It may or may not help.
