Many of us with this disorder find that we may suddenly take on fluid at certain times of the year or with changes in weather. The shifts in barometric pressure can make the disorder worse. Dehumidifiers help as well as massage and exercise, but the medication is key in maintaining a more normal balance so we can function even when we are not in remission.

I tried just taking the medication when I was filling up with fluid and it was a disaster. I ended up in bad shape and it took longer for the medicine to work. I am fairly stable when I take it every day now. The doctor said a lot of people like myself who do not like to take medication try this and eventually see that it is needed every day.
I take medicine every single day as well, I weigh myself every single day. If my weight goes up suddenly I increase my dosage to try and get ahead of an episode. In the last two years I’ve been able to get better at getting ahead of it . It’s been an experiment to see how much to increase the medication before the swelling goes down. But the good news is it does go down!
When you say remission, do you mean you are not taking medication at all? How can you tell when you don't need to take it? I take medication every single day, and in the summer I find I need to increase the dosage.
In the beginning cycles timing seemed more predictable and as the years past they became more unpredictable. Yet I could count on having an episode around Halloween for at least six years in a row. I always thought how ironic to have an episode on this day, I had the perfect costume… A featured circus freak show act!
